Hayley Westenra announces national tour

Teenage singing sensation Hayley Westenra will tour New Zealand in February, it was announced today.

The Christchurch 16-year-old made history earlier this year when her album Pure became the fastest-selling debut album in the British classical charts.

Pure debuted No 1 in the British classical charts and went into the pop charts at No 8.

In this country, Pure topped the charts and has broken the record for the number of weeks an album by a New Zealander has been at No 1 – 10 weeks so far.

Later this month Westenra will perform before the Queen at this year's Royal Variety Performance in Edinburgh.

Tour dates are: Dunedin Feb 17, Christchurch Feb 18, Wellington Feb 21, Hamilton Feb 25, Palmerston North Feb 27, Auckland Feb 29.
